Founder Ruth Zaslow began dog walks in September 2006. With degrees in business, Ruth was an innovative business leader and corporate trainer in the community. She also had a great compassion for the welfare of animals, and left Seattle in 2001 and spent four years doing volunteer work for animal care organizations in Europe, Asia and Africa. In 2005 she returned to her Seattle home, and began doing research and formulating a business plan after seeing a need for dog walking and pet sitting services. She formed PugetPets in the fall of 2006. She gradually added staff as the business grew.
In 2007, Kelly Viergutz came on board PugetPets, starting out with dog walks and pet sits.
Kelly graduated from the veterinary technician program at Front Range Community College in Fort Collins, Colorado and did her internship at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, considered one of the top three veterinary teaching hospitals in the US. After working as a vet tech in local Seattle hospitals, Kelly joined Puget Pets in 2007. Ruth soon expanded her duties in the areas of hiring and service quality. In the summer of 2012, Ruth had decided she wanted to retire from the business so that she could once again do volunteer work with animal organizations in Asia.
Kelly bought PugetPets in August, 2012 and has successfully continued the company’s excellent reputation in Seattle’s pet care industry. PugetPets supports local animal welfare organizations like PAWS and Seattle Humane Society. With her vet tech background and experience, Kelly is a great source to her clients for information on selecting a puppy breed, nutrition, medicine, training, reactivity and other special needs, as well as advice on local vets and boarding facilities.
PugetPets has several staff, many who have been with the company since Ruth owned it. The staff are all well-trained and experienced with all breeds of dogs. Several of the staff do cat services and overnight services as well. PugetPets specializes in working with rescue dogs and reactive dogs, and staff are able to care for animals with special needs, diets and medications.
Kelly has plans to continue to expand PugetPets for other services, and to continue offering great dog walking and pet sitting services to the greater Seattle area.
